Israeli Forces Attacks Iran as Blasts Reported in the Capital

In the early hours of Saturday morning, accounts surfaced of significant blasts rocking the Iranian capital, following claims from Israel that it had carried out a preventative strike.

Loud Blasts and Plumes of Smoke Witnessed in the Heart of Tehran

As per on-the-ground reports, two loud blasts were heard in the city on Saturday morning. Correspondingly, columns of dense smoke were observed rising over the centre and east of the city.

“The type of explosions suggests that this is a missile attack,” one news agency reported, without immediately provide further details.

Background: Rising Strains and Recent Developments

The incident takes place against a background of severely escalated strains in the region. Major events preceding this strike involve:

  • US Military Buildup: A massive build-up of US naval forces in the Middle East, featuring the repositioning of carrier strike groups.
  • Nuclear Talks: Recent discussions between the United States and Iranian officials on Tehran's atomic program concluded without a deal, with suggestions of further discussions planned.
  • Public Statements: Prior to the strike, a prominent American figure had described Iran as “the leading state sponsor of terrorism” and issued threats regarding its weapons development.
  • Ultimatum: Allegedly, a time limit of roughly two weeks had been presented to Iran to settle the nuclear dispute or face severe consequences.

Iranian Response

Reacting to prior accusations, Iranian authorities had charged the United States of spreading “falsehoods” about its missiles programme. They rejected assertions about missile development and casualty figures as baseless.

These developments remains fast-moving, with additional reports expected as events unfold.
