Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could enable the team reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
